PGL’s two summer fellows, Marina Fleites and Julia Montoya, returned from León in July after a busy engagement on the grass-roots level in a number of PGL initiatives. The fellows, Gettysburg College students, were chosen for the internships and placed through the Gettysburg College Center for Public Service.

Their responsibilities included working mornings at a school in León teaching ESL with a counterpart teacher. They also worked with two of PGL’s partners, La Base, which promotes economic growth through worker cooperatives, and the Las Tias Youth Center, the after-school program that serves at-risk youth.  For both of these Marina and Julia created promotional videos. Las Tias will share its video on its Facebook page, and one can access the La Base video on its website. In addition, the interns worked on a video for PGL.

Marina continues her connection with PGL this coming year as the Student Program Coordinator for PGL at the Center for Public Service. In this position she will look for ways to bring the work of PGL to the attention of the campus community.
