- December 17 - Festive Annual Auction Nears
Plans are in full swing for the 2012 annual PGL fund-raising auction, "Nicaragua Night," scheduled for Saturday, January 28. Once again approximately 600 attendees are expected.

- December 17: Preschool Construction at Monte Horet Gets Funding Campaign
A special fund-raising campaign was initiated in November in order to raise the $20,000 PGL has committed for the construction of a preschool in the community of Monte Horet.

- September 5 - Success Continues with Oven-Building in Monte Horet
In the community of Monte Horet women have been learning how to construct their own solar ovens and then go about building them. Over 25 of these ovens have been built so far, with more planned.

- June 26 - PGL Initiates New Agricultural Project
In collaboration with the Penn State Extension Young Grower Alliance (YGA) PGL has entered into a two-year program of agricultural extension support for the rural community of Talolinga in the district of León. The project, to be implemented through four specific phases, is budgeted at $15,000, and will begin within a matter of weeks.

- May 19 - College Class Visits Nicaragua
Professor Kathy Cain’s First Year Seminar, “Worlds of Children,” is in León May 16-23. As a part of the schedule Professor Cain and the college students will be spending one night in Talolinga and working with the residents to build a wood-conserving stove. The course, held last fall semester at Gettysburg College, scheduled this international experience as the culminating component in the study of children.

- May 19 - Heston Interns Begin Summer Work May 23
Following directly on the heels of the visit in León by Gettysburg College students from a First Year Seminar, three Heston interns will begin their work on May 23. Greg Bowles, PGL's director in León, has arranged the internships for Ben Schell, Elena Perez-Zetune and Bridget Footit.
